About Boundless Expectations
Boundless Expectations is a child-centered nonprofit that brings together specialized instruction, advocacy, educator learning, and community partnership to help students with learning differences thrive.
For more than a decade, our work has grown from a small local tutoring and advocacy effort into a broader mission serving children, families, educators, schools, and the Southern Maryland community.
We understand. There is hope. There is help.
Our Foundation
We believe every child can learn and grow when they are understood, supported, and given access to appropriate, evidence-based instruction.
Our work centers on helping children build skills, confidence, and independence while supporting the families and educators who walk alongside them.
“Every interaction should leave people feeling understood, encouraged, and hopeful.”The Boundless Way
How We Work
Our approach has always depended on relationships. We work with families, schools, assessors, related-service providers, educators, volunteers, and community partners to create stronger educational opportunities for students.
We listen before we prescribe. Every learner and every family brings a different story.
Instruction, recommendations, and professional learning are grounded in research and established practice.
Meaningful progress is strengthened when families, educators, providers, and community partners collaborate.
Success is more than academic growth. We want children to recognize their strengths and believe in what is possible.

Our Story
Boundless Expectations began in 2015 as an offshoot of the Disabilities Advocacy Institute, with advocacy and operations led by Lisa and two tutors working from a small office near Ryken High School.
What began with tutoring and advocacy grew steadily as families, board members, tutors, donors, schools, and community partners invested in the mission. Over time, BEI expanded structured literacy therapy, multisensory math, summer programming, teacher professional development, school-based coaching, and community literacy initiatives.
BEI continues to help families navigate educational decisions, develop skilled reading therapists and educational tutors, and provide individualized support so children can strengthen skills, build confidence, and discover their potential.
BEI becomes a nonprofit organization and opens for tutoring.
Sounds in Syllables therapy and intensive summer programming become part of BEI's work.
BEI broadens its specialized academic support beyond literacy.
Teacher workshops expand into on-site teacher training, coaching, demonstration, and school collaboration.
BEI celebrates ten years of service while expanding partnerships and community literacy initiatives.
A Decade of Service
At BEI's ten-year milestone, the organization reported more than 40,300 tutoring sessions, more than 1,500 advocacy hours, and more than 300 families receiving tutoring and/or advocacy support.
Tutoring sessions building student skills through accredited programs and certified instructors.
Advocacy hours supporting educational planning and family consultation.
Families provided advocacy and/or tutoring services for children with learning challenges.
Beyond the Learning Center
BEI's work increasingly reaches beyond individual tutoring sessions. Recent efforts reflect a broader role in educator capacity, school partnerships, and community literacy.
BEI has provided classroom demonstrations, individual coaching, professional learning community meetings, observation, and implementation support focused on evidence-based literacy practices.
BEI maintains a longstanding relationship with the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center, which provides therapist-level training and certification for BEI tutors.
BEI has helped develop and support READ Strong St. Mary’s, a community literacy initiative bringing together schools, volunteers, educators, nonprofit partners, and higher-education partners to strengthen literacy outcomes. Learn more about READ Strong St. Mary’s →
What Has Not Changed
Programs evolve. Partnerships grow. The organization reaches more people. But the heart of the work remains remarkably simple.
We want families to know they have been heard. We want students to experience meaningful progress. We want educators to have better tools. We want communities to create more opportunities for children to succeed.
We understand. The promise at the heart of Boundless Expectations
There is hope.
There is help. The promise at the heart of Boundless Expectations.
A Boundless Moment
BEI continues to describe its mission in deeply human terms: helping families navigate educational decisions, developing skilled reading therapists and educational tutors, and providing individualized support so children can strengthen skills, gain confidence, and discover their potential.
