When School Feels Hard to Navigate

You do not have to walk into the next meeting alone.

Families often reach out because they have questions about an evaluation, IEP, 504 Plan, accommodations, progress, or whether the current plan is really meeting their child's needs.

?

Consultation

We listen to parent concerns, clarify questions, and help families identify useful next steps.

👁

Observations

Outside classroom observations can provide a snapshot of the student's experience and help families prepare for school conversations.

▤

Document Review

Educational records, evaluations, IEPs, and 504 Plans can be reviewed to help families understand what is in place and what questions remain.

The Boundless Approach

Understand first. Prepare well. Collaborate when possible.

BEI's role is to help families make sense of educational information and enter school conversations with greater clarity and confidence.

1

Listen

What are you seeing? What has already happened? What are you worried about?

2

Review

We look at the information already available and identify areas that need clarification.

3

Prepare

Families can develop questions, priorities, and a parent agenda for an IEP or 504 meeting.

4

Move Forward

We help families understand possible next steps while keeping collaboration and the child's needs at the center.

Assessment Guidance

Sometimes the next question is: what information are we missing?

BEI materials describe guidance around screeners, informal assessments, progress monitoring, and recommendations for formal assessment when additional information may be useful. Formal clinical or diagnostic evaluations should be completed by appropriately qualified outside professionals when needed.

What We Can Help Families Think Through

Questions become more manageable when they are organized.

IEP

IEP Questions

Goals, services, progress, accommodations, and whether the plan reflects the student's current needs.

504

504 Questions

Understanding accommodations, access, and how supports are intended to function in school.

✓

Evaluation Questions

Understanding existing evaluations and what additional assessment may—or may not—be useful.

→

Next-Step Questions

Identifying practical priorities rather than trying to solve everything at once.

BEI

A Boundless Moment

Sometimes the first outcome is simply clarity.

BEI was founded with advocacy at its core. The organization continues to describe consultation and advocacy as bedrock support for students and families—helping parents better understand educational decisions while working collaboratively with schools and other professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is okay to come with questions.

Do you attend IEP or 504 meetings?

Meeting participation and current advocacy availability should be confirmed directly with BEI during intake.

Can BEI diagnose my child?

This page does not represent BEI as a clinical diagnostic provider. BEI can help families understand educational information and identify when outside evaluation may be appropriate.

Can you review records before I contact the school?

Document review has historically been part of BEI's consultation work. Current scope and scheduling should be confirmed during intake.

You do not need to know the educational language first.

Bring the questions you have. Bring the information you already have. We can begin there.
